The Truth About Grain-Free Dog Food | Vet Explains

Are grain-free diets bad for dogs? Dr. Lera clears up the myth — and explains why the real concern is pulse-rich ingredients like peas, lentils, chickpeas, and potatoes.

Using Bruce the Doberman as a case example, he shares what a cardiologist once advised: Avoid grain-free diets where pulses are in the first 5–6 ingredients.

Corn? Also just filler.
The key? Look at what your dog’s food is made of — not just what’s missing.

  2. Sorry, but I disagree with most of this. Grain free dog food was created to try and differentiate your food from everyone else’s. It was all marketing and had absolutely nothing to do with nutrition. The DCM issue still is unresolved so it’s very hard to have an opinion on it. When he says corn is just a filler I realized this is someone following the marketing trends and advertising, not nutrition. He seems to mean well but he needs more education.

  3. I follow a great DVM, CVFT . Not sure what she would say about that but I love the first four ingredients of most ziwi peak, I do not like their chicken. Regardless, the dog is wearing a prong collar if you want to know about origin of stress the use of that prong collar might be considered. If there is even such a thing as “proper prong collar training”,the dog is only supposed to wear the prong collar for training, not when is laying on the floor. I regrettably did prong collar train my previous dog, because I did not know better and better is for spray or service dog training which I now do, you know, but I only needed to do the prong collar training with someone who had 48 years of experience in the beginning once The dog comprehended the training, he never needed the prong collar again for the rest of his 10 1/2 years I could Offleash him or loose leash him. He looks like a white husky or white shepherd that he was in fact, a meat trade rescue, part, Korean Jindo. Yes, possibly the digestion is part of the problem but I would say the prong collar is the bigger problem
